[OLD COAST ALES]

At Old Coast Ales, I do a variety of graphic design projects including posters, menus, websites, flight cards, informational signs, festival displays, you name it. My favorite thing to design, however, are can and bottle labels.

I really enjoy working within a confined format with a set of rules dictated by a template, and occasionally breaking those rules.

One of the flagship beers at Old Coast Ales, ‘Lite-House’ is named after the St. Augustine Lighthouse, located 1 mile down the road from the tap room.

The lighthouse itself is white with a thick black stripe that wraps around it 3 times. The top of the lighthouse is red. The label is design as an abstraction.

IPA Day is the first Thursday in August. I had a lot of freedom in this design, and the end result was a product of play with patterns, colors and texture. As part of the promotion for this beer, I created a rubber-hose styled character named 'Hazy Hank."

‘Imperial Empirical’ was a special release spun off of Old Coast Ale’s flagship IPA, ‘Empirical IPA,’ named after the bicycle shop of creator of the bicycle feature in Old Coast’s logo. This label pays tribute the bike maker himself.

Aptly named, ‘tango’ is a wheat ale with tangerine and mango puree. The design shows the aforementioned fruit in a light and playful manner, as well as a stem-and-leaf added to the ‘o’ in tango to resemble a tangerine.

Originally named to commemorate the re-opening of the taproom after the COVID-19 government shutdown, this is a 2022 re-design of the original ‘With Much Anticipation’ label designed to showcase a big reveal.

The first label of 2024, ‘Leap Beer’ is fun and playful. It shows a frog leaping through a geometric shape resembling a pint of beer. I admit to some recency bias, but this is one my favorite labels to date.
